Is Your Plumbing Ready for Summer?
Today is the perfect day to check out your plumbing mechanisms!
Tighten loose connections to the washing machine, and check the hoses for signs of wear, like cracks and leakage. This is important because the washer tends to get used more in the summer, especially with a busy family. Every three years is a good interval for replacement of hoses. How long have you had your hoses for? Prevention is a good practice if you don’t want to spend your summer worrying about plumbing problems!
Also, be careful about what goes down the garbage disposal. Thick summery food waste like corncobs and husks, or watermelon rinds and banana peels will most likely overtax your disposal. Place these items in your compost pile instead! Run plenty of cold water with whatever items you do send through the disposal.
Some rain is also expected occassionally as the temperatures rise. Make sure your sewer pipes are ready for summer or else that enjoyable rain could turn into a nightmare. Too much water in the sewer pipes can lead to a back up! You should also have your trees checked because as they grow old, their roots could cause underground pipes to crack.
